Secret Shadow Spies coming at you live and direct! UTR#18 'Shadow Spies' warehouse party.

Saturday 19 May 2012

featuring

NHJ (M Division Records, Melbourne)
Lorna Clarkson (Down Low Disco, 2SER)
Magda (4OUR)
D&D (HAHA/Hummingbird)

10PM til the wee hours / BYO

Tickets on sale now $20 (Door $25)

Location given to ticket holders and announced on the day via HAHA Comms.

*

Featuring two new special agents to HAHA – one of which will be flown in all the way from Melbourne to pop in from the cold for the night; the other is a sleeper agent we’ve had sourcing only the utmost forward thinking soundscapes for us for some time right here in Syd-city….

Using impersonal communication avenues – radio waves – only, our Shadow Spies will quickly & assertively pass their well endowed secrets onto each & every one of you to enable the creation of immediate dancefloor devastation on enemy terrain in the inner west coordinates of Syd-City!

Firstly, we have called upon a fine operative, a young man who assisted in bringing Melbourne to life at night years ago via the true electro-nic sounds of the infamous MECCANOID parties, and who is continuing to do so by running a residency at the legendary Revolver’s “Late Show”, a true covert operative who has played all over Europe, North America & beyond sourcing only the most viable of sound secrets via his renowned record label which has seen support from the upper echelons of the radio wave community…. we have called upon;

NHJ (M Division Records, Melbourne)

M Division

In addition, we have sought out and requested the presence of one of the finest purveyor’s of new music hitting our dancefloors. A woman who is frequently receiving sound-bite correspondence from foreign intelligence agencies and has her ear well to the ground when it comes to dancefloor tactics most have yet to even be privy too, the RBMA go to girl in Sydney, and the one they have called upon to host their lounge at Sonar in Barcelona in years gone past, we bring you the well versed soundscape operative;

LORNA CLARKSON (Down Low Disco, 2SER)

Down Low Disco

Once we activate the above Silent Shadow Spies, they will be receiving covert assistance on the ground by a lady that needs absolutely no introduction to the HAHA forces earlobes. The directors of our forces have requested the magnificent presence of one of our favorite local sound selectors;

Magda Bytnerowicz (4OUR)

and flanked for support on every damn side will be your HAHA Generals;

D&D (HAHA/Hummingbird)

UTR#16 ‘Tactical Response’ Warehouse Party
Saturday 10 March
D&D (HAHA) – all night set
BYO
Advance tickets $20 on sale now
Door $25 if any remain

* * *

It has come to our attention that a large number of outside forces, as well as a few of man’s best friends, broke through the front lines recently and as a result some of our comrades were captured in the process.

HAHA HQ asserts that all soldiers entering the field of battle must better equip themselves with the appropriate knowledge & tools to successfully complete each mission they embark on.

Each soldier MUST learn precisely how to duck & when to weave stealthily into the darkness, how to properly camouflage themselves within each and every type of terrain they encounter.

As elite soldiers we have & have always had the most potent propensity for survival in all conditions….

Recent events have shown us that we all MUST improve our tactical response methods!

In order to accomplish this task we will train hard, we will study the enemy evasion tactics shown before us repeatedly & to our best ability, as we continue to strive towards becoming more effective soldiers on the battle-less field.

HAHA HQ has prepared a MANDATORY FIELD MISSION aimed at providing each soldier with comprehensive tactical field response technics.

The Tactical Response Training Mission will begin at TWENTY TWO HUNDRED HOURS on the evening of SATURDAY MARCH 10th.

Your Tactical Response Mission Commanders will be none other than the locally legendary:

D&D

aka

Dave “The Bull” Fernandes – known for his strong enemy evasion tactics

Dean “The Bear” Dixon – known for his ability to sniff the enemy out in the toughest of terrains

Please use your mission essentials including the provided topographical map to get you to the L.Z. on time.

** NOTE: this mission requires some field course prep work in the form of practicing how to carefully stow away your personal BYO rations prior to departing on a mission. It requires each soldier to consider the various ways one might blend in with their surroundings so as to evade capture by the enemy & to practice effective ways of monitoring enemy patrols in the field so as to assist you & your fellow comrades to stay on the winning side of this war of the night……….

See you on that battle -less- field.

(Future Times, Rush Hour, Retreat, W.T Rec’s, Drumpoet Community, Feel Music. Internasjonal, Permanent Vacation….)

One of present days true movers and shakers in the deep, dark nightlife that is Berlin, Hunee has amassed an incredible discography in a relatively short space of time. Including those are the sounds he’s released on Prins Thomas’s “Internajonal” label, the forward thinking, Washington D.C based “Future Times” label and of course one cannot fail to mention his remix release (soon to be releases plural any day now) on Rush Hour for the legendary Chicago House group, VIRGO FOUR.

However, Hunee’s not one to simply sit back and lap up the limelight of his recent successes and has instead forged ahead with yet another new track due out shortly on Dekmantel as part of the Dekmantel Anniversary Series as well as an album for Rush Hour also in the pipeline.

With a whole heap of releases on a variety of other labels each catering to quite varied soundscapes, it’s easily noted that there is significant musical knowledge put into every single release he makes or record he wax on the platter at any given time.

The musicology graduate knows exactly where to take the dancefloor, many moves before you actually arrive there in jubilation. Head honcho of the “Hunchin All Night” residency at Soju Bar in Berlin, he takes punters on a tour to ecstasy every chance he gets….and soon, it’s your turn!

Catch Hunee as he shuffles around the country to a dancefloor near you for his First Australian Tour!

Tim Sweeney and Beats in Space
www.beatsinspace.net

The story of the man is synonymous with that of the radio show. Over the course of a decade, Sweeney has built Beats in Space into an iconic brand. In return, BIS has launched Sweeney’s career as one of New York’s most sought-after DJs.

It’s hard to believe that, ten years ago, Sweeney was an 18-year-old student at New York University, helming a little-known radio show on WNYU’s AM dial. The show started small, airing on an obscure frequency during the wee hours of the night. However, Sweeney understood the huge potential for a dance-music radio show broadcast from the heart of New York City. He envisioned a genre-breaking format, showcasing the best dance music—whether disco, new wave, Chicago house, minimal techno, Krautrock, funk and soul, or post-punk—found anywhere in the world, anytime in history. He took cues from groundbreaking disc jockeys like Detroit’s Electrifying Mojo, who thought nothing of following up Prince with a Kraftwerk or Depeche Mode record. Armed with this vision, Sweeney began pulling in heavy-hitting guest DJs on BIS, prompting WNYU’s producers to move him to the FM dial with increasingly prime timeslots. Sweeney quickly attracted a strong international following for the diverse range of artists and styles on his playlists. Guest artists who’ve appeared alongside him on the show range from avant-techno stylists Carl Craig and Superpitcher, to Australian turntablists the Avalanches, to Nordic disco producers Lindstrom and Prins Thomas.

Since launching BIS, Sweeney has dug deep into New York music circles. In the early days of BIS, he worked in the studio of hip-hop legend Steinski (of Double Dee & Steinski’s Lessons fame), absorbing as much as possible from the producer’s vast record collection. Later, Sweeney came aboard DFA Records, touring with James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem and pairing up with Tim Goldsworthy as the DJ duo T&T. His work with DFA led him to play the saxophone on the DFA remix of Radio 4′s “Dance to the Underground,” and to mix a DFA set for a 2003 Muzik magazine promo CD. He has released DFA Records’ Compilation # 2 (2004), the DFA Holiday Mix 2005, and A DFA Compilation for the Chanel Mobile Art New York Party (2008). Sweeney also collaborates with the Philadelphia-based RVNG label, recording the CD mix Purple Pills for Sleepless Nights in 2008. Until 2006, Sweeney worked as a soundtrack supervisor for Rockstar Games, scoring music for such mega-hit games as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

In recent years, Sweeney has become an accomplished producer in his own right. He self-released the 7-inch “Sing a Little Song” in 2001, which was co-produced with Alex Epton, aka XXXChange (best known for his work with Spank Rock). He co-wrote and scratched on two tracks for the Rammellzee album, Bi-Conicals of the Rammellzee, on Gomma Records (2004), and scratched on the Hercules & Love Affair b-side “I’m Telling You” (2008). Most recently, Sweeney worked under the moniker the Flying Squad to release “Trip 1″ (a re-edit of Munich Machine’s “Get on the Funk Train”) and “Trip 2″ (a re-edit of Boney M’s “Nightflight to Venus”) on RVNG.

In conjunction with the show’s 10th anniversary, Sweeney is taking Beats in Space into new territories. During fall 2009, BIS will showcase anniversary events in Los Angeles, New York, Glasgow, London, Sydney, Melbourne and San Francisco, with the latter kicking off a new monthly residency on the West Coast. Most exciting of all: 2009 marks the launch of a brand-new label, Beats in Space Records. Like the radio show, BIS Records represents an opportunity for Sweeney to showcase artists who’re pushing the boundaries of dance music. The label’s first release is a 12-inch by an artist whose work has blown up past BIS playlists, the much-hyped German house producer Tensnake.

Today, tens of thousands of listeners tune in to the Beats in Space broadcast in the Tri-State area, with thousands more all over the world listening in via live online streams, every Tuesday from 10:30pm to 1am. Fans download 175,000 archived shows from the BIS website (Beatsinspace.net) every month. Beats in Space remains the only dance-music radio show of its kind in New York, and one of the most instantly recognized in the world. And though Sweeney finds himself on an international flight nearly every weekend, he hasn’t lost sight of his initial passion. “Week in and week out, I’m still back in New York on Tuesday to record the show,” says Sweeney. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

Inkswel (Firecracker/Boogiebash/Superior Elevation) Melbourne

PATCHWORXX MIX by INKSWEL

With a heavy grounding in hip hop, early house, 80s soul and boogie and deep techno sounds. Inkswel is hard to fit into one label, a lover of all soulful music, this shines through in his productions and dj sets.

His ‘Get To My Party’ release on BOOGIEBASH RECORDS bubbled under the surface with the well recieved ‘She Likes Techno’ causing ripples in the current stream of future music.

Touring Europe recently on the back of only a handful of releases, Inkswel has played the Soup Kitchen in Manchester alongside the Phonica Records/Wet Play team, moved the dancefloor at the big chill bar in London with Discreet Unit and Ruf Dug, guested on Living Room.Fm in Switzerland, played the BOOGIEBASH parties in Holland alongside Funkineven and KC The Funkaholic and held down the dancefloor at Canvas nightclub in Amsterdam alongside Kez Ym from Tokyo and Pablo Valentino of MCDE.

Approached by Disco Tom aka Tom Noble (PPU) to remix forgotten 70′s disco soul group Darwin Theory on his new Superior Elevation label in 2011, this limited release 7 inch single sold out worldwide. Recieving steady radio support from Recloose’s “Hit It And Quit It” Radio show and the legendary “Future Vintage” on Red Light Radio in Amsterdam.

His latest offering once again on the BOOGIEBASH imprint, distributed by RUSH HOUR, features the illustrious Zackey Force Funk and a remix from Tom Noble, already making quite a stir in the current over saturated world of slo mo abelton rubbish and proto cliches. The EP has received heavy radio and club support from Bronswood Burner’s Leftoo and UK future soul legend SIMBAD.

Redefining what he does with each output, expect upcoming releases on french based label FACES & MCDE and a 10″ ep on Unthank/Firecracker for early 2012.

Outside of the studio Inkswel is also throwing the monthly 808 til late parties with Koolism beat legend DJ Danielsan, a spontaenous jam session consisting of vinyl and live tr 808 drum machine, an ode to the past, that at the end of the night is purerly for the sake of a good party.

Want to experience something different? This aint just a party, it’s Burning Seed, following the footsteps of the Burning Man festival in America done the Australian way. Located equidistant from Sydney and Melbourne, the event will be running wild next week. Tickets are still on sale and be quick, they are limited.

Seed 2011 is the second annual Australian Regional Burning Man event, happening from the 9th – 14th November 2011. After an amazing first burn in Bellingen last year, we are moving to a larger and more out-of-the-way location in a forest clearing near Narrandera in Wiradjuri Country, Southern New South Wales (NSW).

Burning Seed is a gathering like no other, a not-for-profit festival run by participants and based around art and community. As the official regional burn for Australia, it follows in the footsteps of the Burning Man festival that has been taking place in Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA, since 1991, where every year tens of thousands of people create a temporary city that rises from an ancient dry lake bed over a week of intense creativity and sharing, before disappearing without a trace.

The sun is out and the warm weather is upon us….

Which means only one thing! It’s time for our yearly “Mandatory Training Mission”!

It is suggested that you all turn up geared to absorb the energy of the WILDerness….. because it’s gonna be one hell of a test in physical endurance! This will be a grand field lesson, with a “survival of the fittest” mentality in mind. We will be dropped into a remote location and required to work alongside one another as comrades, teaching and learning from one another. For key instruction on this mission, we have called upon two of Syd-City’s finest Veterans of Military Field Survival!

CAPTAIN JIMMI “THE BEAR” POLAR;
the man as legend has it, survived years on the land in the frigid Polar ice caps with little more than a deep dark cave to sleep in and crates of wax to keep him warm at night!

CAPTAIN ED”SEVEN”;
the man who, after finding himself stranded alone, seven kilometers behind enemy lines in barren wasteland, gathered enough courage to attack the enemy with a variety of beats and pieces in a cacophonous blur & lived to tell the tale!

Alongside

MAJOR DAVE FERNANDES & MAJOR DEAN DIXON;
they will lead us as we march in line, through the thick lush walls of the Inner City warehouse wilderness….teaching us how to live off the land, how to forage for food, how to construct weapons by organic means, and how to maintain orientation without a map or a compass.

JOIN US as we return to the undomesticated, untamed and fearsome lands of the wild, as we develop more essential tactics to assist us in defeating our enemies.

To learn, we will be thrown into unfamiliar situations and our ears will never be the same….they will never be more prepared for future battles. We will learn to withstand any environment, any surrounding, any attacker. We will be fiercer, stronger and ready to withstand any barrage thrown at us.

With our machetes at hand, our fire starters in our pockets, our canteens full and our smoke screen flares ready to be tossed, we will embark on this mission…. After which, all you TROOPS will know after this mission exactly what it takes to survive in a remote location anywhere at anytime….

Be sure to pack your tacticle field gear & all personal rations required for such an extensive field exercise…. (as well as any additional rations you may require for the journey to and from the secret drop location.)
